How Long Should an Etsy Title Be?
The current limit is 140 characters, but the better question is how much of that space your listing actually needs.
The short answer
An Etsy listing title can be up to 140 characters. But Etsy’s April 2026 title guidance says sellers should consider using fewer than about 15 words while clearly stating what the item is and including the most important objective details.
Why Etsy changed its title guidance
Etsy says its newer guidance is designed to make titles more buyer-friendly and search-ready. The current recommendations emphasize one clear noun for the item, important objective descriptors, less repetition, fewer subjective words and less unnecessary occasion or recipient language.
What should stay in the title?
- The noun that clearly identifies the product
- Critical objective descriptors such as material, color, size or style when relevant
- A genuinely essential occasion or recipient term when it defines the item
What should usually move out?
- Subjective filler such as “perfect” or “beautiful”
- Repeated versions of the same noun or adjective
- Price, sale and shipping language
- Long strings of “gift for…” phrases that do not define the product

Etsy’s current 2026 guidance says sellers should consider fewer than about 15 words while including the most important traits.
Should I fill all 140 characters?
Not automatically. The limit is a maximum, not a target. Etsy’s newer guidance emphasizes clarity and readability.

Use occasions or recipient types when they are essential to what the item is. Broad gift wording does not need to appear in every title.
